How it all began

On a scorching hot Sunday in 2013, it was Finals Day at Henley Royal Regatta. Local girl Katherine Selway was working the last shift in the Leander Club cloakroom and Lance Tredell, having stroked the Leander Mens 8+ to victory in the Ladies Challenge Plate earlier in the day, was out celebrating with his teammates. Lance’s phone was running low on battery and when looking for a charger was told to “ask the girl in the cloakroom”. The girl in the cloakroom didn’t have a charger but enjoying the view and thinking on her feet, she happened to see a phone charger poking out the top of a guest’s bag and thought they wouldn’t mind if she borrowed it. Lance returned back to the cloakroom every now and then to ‘check how his phone was doing’. Very soon he was spending more time at the cloakroom door than anywhere else, and on his last visit before continuing the celebrations elsewhere Lance finally plucked up the courage to ask for Katherine’s number. And the rest, as they say, is history…
